Fearing the holiday season
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
It’s my favorite time of year.
Cooler temperatures.
College football.
My kids birthdays.
Halloween. and my favorite holidays- Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I absolutely love this time of year.
But I’m acutely aware that for many people, there are aspects of the holiday season that brings dread or concern. And I’m not talking about the abundance of events, extra time with family, and over-scheduling. Although those are real reasons for dread for some, it’s not my purpose of writing today.
No. I’m talking about the food. Seasonal favorites. Tons of holiday parties. And why do all of the holiday traditions include desserts?
Can you relate?
Does dread accompany your holiday excitement?
You’re not alone. Many people experience a loss of control this time of year. It’s why January sees such a huge boost in new gym memberships. Many people just give into the loss of control, let the binges come, and decide to deal with it later. Sadly, for those people, the shame persists and doesn’t get dealt with later.
Friend, we are not meant to live a life like this. We are not meant to feel controlled by food and shame. And while I think that, at some level, you do believe that. You don’t see any other way.
What if I told you that you could enjoy all of the aspects of the holiday season? Without shame. Without guilt. And without feeling like you’ve lost control. Does this sound promising? Does this sound like something you want to work toward? Because this is what I do. I help people learn food freedom. How to enjoy food, find comfort, fulfillment, and satisfaction without guilt or shame or loss of control.
If you’re ready to find your freedom, this November and December, I’m offering a holiday special: 30 minutes with a dietitian to learn how to enjoy not dread holiday food. During this short session, we’ll make a plan for how you will approach this season with confidence and what to do if you do overindulge. This year, don’t create a problem that you feel you need to clean up in January, create a plan.
You can’t start a journey without a first step so let’s get going.
Onward. Forward.
